“Dude”, our practice hero retires.
Handsome Dude is an eight year old German shepherd - Rottie cross, belonging to our vet nurse Monica. He weighs about 30 kgs and is a lovely natured boy, which made him perfect for the role of practice hero: He has been our clinic blood donor for the past few years.
Dude has donated blood to help the lives of several desperate dogs during his time as a blood donor. The patients he’s given blood to have been suffering from a range of diseases: poisoning with rat bait, autoimmune thrombocytopaenia (a condition where the body attacks its own thrombocytes, which are blood cells involved in the blood’s clotting mechanisms) and bleeding abdominal tumours.
Dude got lots of treats and cuddles for his sacrifice and free vaccinations! (He doesn’t particularly appreciate the vaccinations!)
Everyone at Mill Road, and I’m sure the owners of the blood recipients, would like to say a big thank you to Dude and Monica.
Now that Dude is getting on in years, he has to step down from his role and we are looking for a new hero to be our blood donor. We need a dog that is between 1.5 & 7 years old, is over 25kgs, has never had puppies, has never received a blood transfusion and is fit & healthy and easy to handle. Please give us a call if you are interested in your dog becoming a donor for our clinic.
